Window awnings are another option to block the unwanted sun and heat. These can be either fixed or retractable.
With retractable window awnings, there are a few options. The most common is a “pull up window awning”. These operate just as the name says; we attach a rope to the under side of the awning that runs from the top of the awning to the front of it. When pulling the rope, the awning folds up against the wall. Gravity will drop the awning back down when you want the protection. A “tie down” cleat is installed on the wall to tied the rope to, which keeps the awning from falling down. The other option is to have the awning controlled by a crank or a motor. Fixed window awnings can be made of canvas or aluminum. Window awnings will reduce the heat coming into the home by about 90%, not to mention help in keeping the furniture and floor from fading. |
